People generally consume about 152 pounds of sugar and 146 pounds of flour (which turns to sugar upon digestion) every year. And get this--the average kid eats about 34 teaspoons of sugar (about half a pound) each day, mainly in the form of liver-harming high fructose corn syrup, through their high consumption of soda, breakfast cereals, snack foods and sweets.
Studies have shown that eating too many refined carbohydrates including sugar and flour can stress your pancreas with massive requirements for insulin and eventually lead to insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes.
Sugar has also been shown in studies to not only encourage an internal environment that favors cancer, but it actually feeds cancer cells and helps them proliferate. Sugar makes your gut wall too porous (leaky gut) which can allow dangerous toxins access to your bloodstream, but it can give harmful bacteria the “upper hand” and hamper your immune system functioning, as well as roll out the red carpet for a diverticulitis attack.
Sugar has been implicated as a leading cause of heart disease because it can encourage unhealthy cholesterol levels, as well as drive up your blood pressure.
In addition, sugar stiffens the collagen in your tendons, joints and skin, which can lead to arthritis and premature wrinkling. Sugar sets the stage for chronic inflammation and related inflammatory diseases like arthritis, back problems, atherosclerosis and tumor development.
According to German author and neurologist Dr. Agnes Floel, elevated blood sugar levels (from regularly eating refined-carb, high-sugar foods) are fast becoming significant markers for cognitive decline and dementia, and also memory problems. The higher the intake of refined carbohydrates and sugar, the lower the IQ.
Our precious young ones are being set up for a lifetime of obesity, pain, sickness and disease.
If you suspect you are suffering the health effects of too much sugar, in addition to seeing your doctor to address any obvious health effects, it's absolutely VITAL to change your diet to replace most of the refined sugar with healthy, complex carbs.
If you get lots of gas and bloating, it's practically by SUGAR!
